SFX Filtration System Troubleshooting

SFX.png
Note: Disconnect the pump from the electrical outlet before performing any troubleshooting pump.
PROBLEM CAUSE POSSIBLE SOLUTION
Motor fails to start or kicks on and off Unit Not Plugged In Plug the GFCI into a 3-wire grounded outlet and press the reset button to turn pump on.
GFCI Outlet Breaker Tripped Reset circuit breaker on electrical panel. If problem persists, have an electrician check circuit
Low Voltage Check the line voltage. It must be 105 to 125 AC volts.
No flow or low flow through the return hose Low water level Water level must be between the Min/Max Limit Lines marked on Skimmer canister ring.
Inlet or Return Clogged Check for obstructions at strainer basket, filter cartridge, return hose and return fitting.
Filter Dirty Clean or replace cartridge. Spare cartridges make service more convenient.
Filter is not cleaning pool. (water cloudy, green, etc…)    Chlorine level not in the suitable range Maintain the chlorine level between 1.0 - 1.6ppm.
Filter Dirty Clean or replace cartridge. Spare cartridges make service more convenient
pH Level not in the suitable range. Maintain the pH level between 7.3 - 7.8.
Filter Cartridge is Damaged Inspect the filter cartridge for holes or tears. If visibly damaged; replace the filter cartridge
Low Water Flow Check for obstructions at strainer basket, filter cartridge, return hose and return fitting.
Other Chemicals Required Have water tested at pool supply store. It may be necessary to add other
chemicals due to varying water quality in different localities
Pool Water Very Dirty Chemicals are required to maintain clean pool water. Clean pool and filter more often.
Water Leakage Hose area : Return hose
does not fit well with skimmer
cuff and wall fitting elbow
Make sure the hose clamp is positioned properly over the hose and o-ring to ensure a
proper seal. Adjust hose clamp, check o-ring and re-tighten. Check hose for any holes or cracks and replace if needed.
Bottom of canister:

1) The Motor Seal must sit in the inner groove in the bottom of the canister before
installing pump (Exception – the SFX1500 only has one groove).

2) Check pump alignment.
The arrow with the indentation on the pump MUST point to the matching indentation on the
canister.

3) Make sure that the Motor Seal Nut (Locking ring) is not cross threaded.

Between canister and liner: Incorrect installation. Make sure the Skimmer Gasket Rubber Seal 2 is installed properly (see page 9 steps 3 5 & 4). The key feature should be at the top. Make sure the liner is not in the threaded grooves.
No gap should be visible in this area. Screw the Seal Ring tightly onto canister.

Useful Tips

Symptom 1: Pump will not start or stay on and may turn off suddenly on its own.

  1. Hold down the button "test" If you have a GFCI for 30 seconds, then release the button. Press the reset button to start the pump.
  2. Check another appliance or small device, such as a hair dryer. If that doesn't work, the problem is not with the pump and the client should reset their circuit breaker. If the problem persists, call an electrician to check the circuit.
  3. Is the pump hot? Pumps are protected by thermal overload. If the pump gets too hot, the circuit opens and the pump will stop operating until it cools. Please check in the operating times here. For best results, run the pump at night when the temperature is lower.

Symptom 2: There is no water flow or slow water flow:

  1. Check the filter cartridge or replace filter cartridge if needed. Help with the cleaning of the filters can be found in Filter Cartridge Cleaning and Care, Under Pool Support, Accessory Instructions and Tips
  2. Check for obstructions at all sites of the hose. You can also look inside hose for debris.
  3. Check for debris in of the skimmer basket and down into the pump. Use the replacement instructions for the SFX filtration system of rotor assembly found in the manual of instructions for disassembly and Assembly.

Tip: Using two people to remove the pump and re-installation is recommended.

Symptom 3: Pump is not cleaning the pool (Murky or green tinted water):

  1. Check the filter cartridge. Help with the cleaning of the filters can be found in Filter Cartridge Cleaning and Care, under Pool Support, Accessory Instructions and Tips
  2. Check for obstructions at all sites of the hose. You can also see pipe debris inside.
  3. Use a chemical substance float device to release and ensure chemical are being released when the pump is not running. Apply to the pool on a regular basis.
  4. Be sure to NOT use the swimming pool cover when the outside temperature too hot. The covered pool will become hot and will create algae.
  5. Use instructions for replacement of the SFX filtration system found in the manual of disassembly and Assembly.

Tip: Using two people to remove the pump and re-installation is recommended.

Symptom 4: Pump leaks water.

To determine if the pump itself has a leak or if the canister connections are leaking water. You will have to put your hands in water and may get wet while trying to perform this step.

Scenario 1: Water is leaking at the connections of the hose or the upper part of the canister:

  1. Disconnect the pump from the wall. Check if it is damaged or if there are missing o-rings. Check the inside of the canister.
  2. Ensure hoses and clamps are secure and are in good condition. The top must be correctly tightened. Please visit our section of hose and tips service for advice.
  3. Switch on the pump again to see if it is properly functioning.

If the previous steps do not resolve the problem, please contact Polygroup customer care at 1-888-919-0070 for a solution. You can buy spare parts by phone or at our online store.

Scenario 2: If the water is leaking from the bottom of the canister:

  1. Place the return plug over the opening, unplug the pump, and quickly place the RF CAP to stop possible water flow.
  2. Remove the base, then the pump assembly by turning it clockwise (looking downward). Be careful not to lose the motor seal (rubber gasket).
  3. Check the inside of the canister for damage. Check the pump assembly for damage that could be causing the leak. Look at the packaging for damage.
  4. Slowly insert the pump assembly back into the canister so that the volute outlet is aligned with the outlet hole in the canister.
  5. Tighten the base by turning counterclockwise (looking downward); make sure that the gasket is positioned correctly.
  6. Remove the RF plug and the water stopper, allowing the water to fill the SFX canister. Turn on the pump to see if the system still dripping water.

If the previous steps do not resolve the problem, please contact Polygroup customer care at 1-888-919-0070 for a solution. You can buy spare parts by phone or at our online store.
